  • Do I need to bring my own motorcycle?

    Motorcycle Provision


    BRC1 – No; however, students may use their own licensed motorcycle/scooter of 500cc or less along with proof of registration and insurance.


    BRC2 – Yes, students bring their own licensed motorcycle along with temporary motorcycle license, proof of registration and proof of insurance.

    Supplies


    Required Riding Gear:

    Learners are required to wear the following gear for all riding sessions:

    • Long pants (no rips, tears, sweatpants, or leggings)
    • Long sleeves (shirt, sweatshirt, and/or jacket; no rips or tears)
    • Sturdy over-the-ankle shoes or boots
    • Full-fingered gloves
    • Eye protection
    • DOT-approved helmet

    Note: Helmets are provided for student use; however, availability is limited and ranges in sizes medium through 5X. Students are encouraged to bring their own helmet for best fit and comfort.

  • How many hours is the course?

    Course Duration


    BRC1 – Basic RiderCourse 1:

    • Total: 16 hours
    • Online e-Course: 5 hours
    • Range/Riding Exercises: 11 hours (over two days, Saturday & Sunday)

    BRC2 – Basic RiderCourse 2:

    • Total: 8–9 hours
    • Online e-Course: 4 hours
    • Range/Riding Exercises: 5–6 hours (one-day course, either Saturday or Sunday)

    Types of Motorcycles


    BRC1 – Motorcycle Specifications


    Engine Size: In accordance with State of Wisconsin guidelines, motorcycles used in BRC1 are 500cc or smaller.


    Available Models: KD Motorcycle Training, LLC provides a variety of makes and models to accommodate individual size and comfort. These may include:

    • BMW GR310 (310cc)
    • Royal Enfield Meteor (350cc)
    • Honda Rebel 300
    • Honda CB300R
    • Suzuki VanVan 200cc
  • What does the course consist of?

    Skills and Instruction


    Online e-Course:

    Learners will be provided with strategies to minimize risk and handle special riding situations.


    Range/Riding Exercises:

    Students will be coached to develop basic motorcycle control skills, including:

    • Straight-line riding
    • Stopping
    • Turning
    • Shifting

    After mastering the basics, learners will progress to more advanced skills, such as:

    • Quick stopping techniques
    • Proper cornering and taking curves
    • Swerving to avoid obstacles
  • How old does a person need to be to take the course?

    Age Requirements


    BRC1 – Learners must be at least 15 1/2 and enrolled in a Driver Education Theory class.

    BRC2 – Participants must be 18 years or older.

  • Do I need my temporary permit before the course begins?

    Temporary Permit Requirements


    BRC1 – A motorcycle temporary permit from the Department of Transportation is not required to enroll in or participate in the BRC1.  Effective October 1, 2006, individuals completing a BRC1 are not required to hold a motorcycle temporary permit before they receive their class M (motorcycle) endorsement.


    NOTE: Students who want to practice riding their motorcycle on the roadways prior to attending the motorcycle course will need to pass the written knowledge test at the Department of Transportation and pay the temporary permit fee.  Individuals under 18 years of age or anyone who want a temporary permit for the third time will need verification of enrollment to present to the Department of Transportation to obtain their temporary permit.  If requested, we will e-mail you a Proof of Enrollment letter upon completion of enrollment and successful payment to obtain your temporary license.  Simply call (920) 619-2803 to request this letter.

    • Motorcycles provided by KD Motorcycle Training
    • Temporary License NOT required

    BRC2 – Basic RiderCourse 2

    • Successfully complete the MSF Street Strategies online e-Course
    • Must participate in all range/riding exercises
    • Must be on time for all range/riding sessions
    • Must sign and turn in MSF’s Waiver & Indemnification Form
    • Must pass the riding assessment that measures riding competencies
    • Must provide own motorcycle with proof of registration and insurance
    • Temporary License REQUIRED to enroll and participate
  • Will I get my license if I pass the course?

    MSF Completion Card & Class M Endorsement


    Upon satisfactory completion of the course, learners will receive an MSF Completion Card. This card:


    Exempts the learner from the skills/road test at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT).


    When presented at any Wisconsin DOT exam station, entitles the individual to a Class “M” Endorsement, provided all other licensing requirements are met.
