Never ridden before? Don’t sweat it!

Learn How to Ride a Motorcycle Safely

  • The BRC1 (Basic RiderCourse 1) is designed to help you become comfortable on a motorcycle while developing the skills needed to ride with confidence.
  • This course is ideal for beginners and intermediate riders, and is offered weekends from April through October.
  • The BRC1 provides a safe, structured environment for learning how to ride, even with little or no prior experience. Our certified RiderCoaches provide expert guidance throughout the two-day course, helping you build confidence and master essential motorcycle skills.
  • Gain hands-on experience, personalized instruction, and the knowledge to ride safely and responsibly.

BRC1 – Two-Day Course Details

Course Format:

  • Classroom Portion: Now offered online through the MSF Basic e-Course for student convenience.
  • Range Exercises: Conducted on Saturday & Sunday mornings (7:00 AM – 12:30 PM) or afternoons (1:00 PM – 6:30 PM).

What You’ll Learn in the MSF Basic Online e-Course:

  • Getting familiar with the motorcycle you will be riding
  • Rider safety basics and essential skills

Motorcycle Skills Covered on the Range:

  • Accelerating and shifting
  • Braking and turning
  • Swerving and obstacle navigation
  • Proper technique for curves
  • Low-speed maneuvers, including weaving and U-turns

Required Equipment:

  • Helmet, eye protection, and full-fingered gloves (students are encouraged to bring their own for proper fit and comfort; full-fingered gloves may be purchased for $5 if needed)
  • Additional riding gear: Long sleeves (shirt, sweatshirt, and/or jacket), long pants (no sweatpants or leggings), and sturdy over-the-ankle footwear

This two-day course provides hands-on experience and personalized instruction to help you ride safely and confidently.

You Do Not Need Your Temporary Motorcycle License Prior to Taking This Course

Our Basic RiderCourse 1 (BRC1) will equip you with essential skills, techniques, and procedures, while building the confidence you need to operate your motorcycle safely.

  • Please complete the MSF Basic online e-Course within 30 days of your scheduled BRC1 course.
  • The cost of the Basic online e-Course is included in the price of our classes.
  • After signing up and paying for the course, you will receive two separate emails from MSF:
  1. Your username and a link to access the online e-Course
  2. Your password
  • Students must bring a printed copy of their e-Course completion certificate to the first day of class.
